What is Female Pattern Baldness?
Female pattern baldness is a distinct form of baldness. It occurs in women with androgenetic alopecia. Many women are affected by female pattern baldness. Hormonal treatment: oral medications that block the effects of androgens (spironolactone, cyproterone, finasteride, and flutamide) is also often tried. Once treatment starts they need to be continued for at least six months to show improvements.
Cosmetic camouflages including colored hair spray to cover the thinning area of scalps, hair bulking fiber powders and hair wigs can also be used.
Low-level laser therapy is of unproven benefit but is also used.
