What Is Psoriasis?
Psoriasis is an autoimmune disease in which skin is ridden with patches. Redness, itchiness and being scaly are the characteristics of skin affected with psoriasis. The severity of psoriasis varies from being on a small part to whole body. Certain injuries to skin on a specific spot can also lead to psoriasis known as
Koebner phenomenon.
Psoriasis includes 5 main types: guttate, plaque, pustular, inverse and erythrodermic. Guttate is characterized by lesions. Plaque psoriasis is referred to as psoriasis vulgaris, and is the most commonly occurring psoriasis. It typically occurs as red patches along with white scales on top. It mostly affects back of the forearms, around the navel, scalp and skin. Pustular psoriasis consists of infectious pus filled blisters. Inverse psoriasis causes red patches in skin folds. Erythrodermic psoriasis occurs when the condition worsens and takes form of any other psoriasis.
